She is not in the Harry Potter books, films or plays, and the HBO series cast a boy, Lox Pratt, as Draco (https://malfoid.wiki/female-draco-malfoy). - The name joins "Malfoy" with "foid", short for "femoid", an incel insult for women first seen on r/Incels in April 2017; most posters use it as a pun, and many fans say "fem Draco" instead (https://malfoid.wiki/meaning). - The first known use of the word "Malfoid" is a text-only X post by @swag_chaser on January 10, 2026 (https://malfoid.wiki/meaning). - The trend started with a drawing by @redteneri on September 22, 2026 at 14:03 UTC, 171K likes as of 2026-10-09 (https://malfoid.wiki/origin). - Girl versions of Draco existed long before: a Tumblr drawing from November 9, 2011, and @grizz056's "If malfoy was a girl" from March 10, 2024 (https://malfoid.wiki/female-draco-malfoy). - X ran trending topics about Malfoid on September 29 and October 5, 2026 (https://malfoid.wiki/origin). - The controversy is about the name and about Harry Potter itself: artist Yunayu apologized, removed her drawing and deleted her Bluesky account in early October 2026, then posted on X. J.K. Rowling had made no public statement about Malfoid as of October 8, 2026 (https://malfoid.wiki/controversy). - Fans most often call her Draconia (also Dracona); she is drawn as a tsundere Slytherin heiress with long platinum hair who insults Harry and then blushes (https://malfoid.wiki/who-is-malfoid). - The fan art page shows the 28 most-shared posts by 20 artists, each credited and linked to the original post, ranked by live likes that refresh daily (https://malfoid.wiki/fan-art). - On AO3, the Malfoid tag is merged into "Female Draco Malfoy", which held 652 works on October 9, 2026 (141 rated General, 179 Teen); Wattpad's "malfoid" tag had 36 stories; the site lists 12 picks rated General or Teen (https://malfoid.wiki/fanfiction). - Two free fan visual novels exist on itch.io: Pureblood & Prejudice by COCOLEMON (October 1, 2026) and Draconia by avrana (October 2, 2026). Both run in a browser. - In Japan the trend is called 女体化マルフォイ or マルフォイド; pixiv's "Malfoid" tag passed 7.8 million views by October 9, 2026, and a Japanese girl-Malfoy comic series on pixiv predates the trend (https://malfoid.wiki/ja). ## What Malfoid Wiki is NOT - Not official: not affiliated with Warner Bros., J.K. It is not run by Warner Bros., J.K. Rowling or any of the artists. ## Who runs this site Malfoid Wiki is a small independent project by fans who followed the trend from the first drawing. We started it because the questions people kept asking (what the name means, who drew the first one, why some fans are angry) had scattered answers and very few sources. There are no ads on the site, and nobody pays us to feature their work. ## How we check what we publish Every date on the site comes from the post itself, read from its timestamp, not from a retelling. Like counts come from a snapshot of each post that we refresh once a day, and every count shows the date it was taken. When we quote someone, the quote links to where they said it. Each page lists its sources at the bottom, and if we could not confirm something, we left it out. A few rules we keep: - Every drawing carries the artist's name and a link to their original post on X. We don't crop, edit or watermark anyone's work, and when a post is deleted on X it disappears here too. - We never use AI-generated images of the character. - Fan fiction we list is rated General or Teen only, and we do not link to adult versions of anything. - In the controversy coverage we quote both sides, and we do not name ordinary users or show screenshots of harassment. ## Corrections and contact If something here is wrong, out of date or missing, email **hello@malfoid.wiki** with a link to the page and, if you have one, a source. We fix factual errors as soon as we have checked them, and the page date changes when we do. Artists who want a post removed can use the same address. The steps are on the [disclaimer page](/disclaimer.md), and we handle those requests within 24 hours. How we treat your data is on the [privacy page](/privacy.md). ## Related - https://malfoid.wiki/disclaimer.md - https://malfoid.wiki/privacy.md - https://malfoid.wiki/origin.md - https://malfoid.wiki/fan-art.md ## More - https://malfoid.wiki/llms.txt --- # The Malfoid controversy | Malfoid Wiki Canonical page: https://malfoid.wiki/controversy Last updated: 2026-10-09 The art is mostly affectionate; the fight is about the name and the franchise. “Foid” is an incel slur, and some fans also see any Harry Potter trend as support for J.K. Rowling. ## Key facts - What the fight is about: The name, and Harry Potter itself - Where it happened: Bluesky, r/AO3, X - Artist affected: Yunayu, who left Bluesky - J.K. Rowling's view: No public statement found ## The Malfoid controversy in one paragraph Almost nobody in the Malfoid controversy is angry at the drawings. The argument runs on two other tracks. One is the name: Malfoid ends in “foid”, an insult for women from incel forums. The other is the franchise: for many fans, any new Harry Potter trend means more money for J.K. Rowling, whose public views on gender identity they oppose. The two tracks crossed in the first week of October, and an artist ended up deleting her account. > @yunayuispink: (image) (https://x.com/yunayuispink/status/2107438962075980257, 120K likes as of 2026-10-09) ## Why people object to the name Foid is short for femoid, a word that started on r/Incels in 2017 to describe women as machines rather than people [1]. For critics, the Malfoid controversy starts right there. The best-known version of that complaint is a thread on r/AO3 titled “am i the only one grossed out by the whole malfoid thing” [2]. It drew about 1,200 upvotes and 350 comments before the moderators locked it. The original post asked why straight men suddenly loved an enemies-to-lovers ship once one of the boys was redrawn as a girl and called a foid. For a fan fiction crowd that has written Harry and Draco for twenty years, the Malfoid controversy is personal. ## Why people keep using it The other side of the Malfoid controversy says the name is just a pun. Yahoo's explainer, drawing on Know Your Meme, found no sign the word was being used to call the character stupid; it stuck because Malfoy and foid fit together so neatly [8]. Plenty of artists also don't read it as English slang at all, and stay out of the Malfoid controversy entirely. Japanese and Korean artists tag the same character 女体化マルフォイ or just draw her. Others split the difference, like @Hipaxiaartwork, who captioned a drawing “Female Draco Malfoy AKA Malfoid”, leading with the plain name. > @Hipaxiaartwork: Female Draco Malfoy AKA Malfoid ~ Harry Potter (https://x.com/Hipaxiaartwork/status/2104765822166085897, 3.1K likes as of 2026-10-09) ## The Harry Potter boycott argument The bigger part of the Malfoid controversy has little to do with the word. Because of Rowling's public stance on transgender issues, part of the fandom has tried to stop engaging with Harry Potter altogether. Cybernews tied the Malfoid controversy directly to Rowling's frequent posts about gender [3]. Journalist Ana Valens put the boycott side most carefully. In a six-post thread on Bluesky on October 4, she said that cutting back on Harry Potter is “a hearts-and-minds PR fight that often requires strategy & a velvet glove”, and added: “I don't think yelling at artists is working” [4]. On “foid” she was blunter: it is already common internet slang “and is not going anywhere”. Replies under her thread split the same way the whole Malfoid controversy did. Some said ignoring Harry Potter is the easiest act of solidarity a creator can make. Others said artists who don't speak English can't be expected to know the background. Video: [The MALFOID situation is crazy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Po2MeFg_D_0) ## What happened to artist Yunayu This is the part of the Malfoid controversy most people search for, and the part most often told wrong. Yunayu, a Japanese illustrator, walked into the Malfoid controversy without knowing it. She posted a female Draco on Bluesky. The replies turned hostile, she apologized and removed the drawing. Her apology, as quoted by Cybernews, read: “I only learned about the situation after I drew the fanart” and “I never intended to hurt or offend anyone with my drawings” [3]. By October 3, other X users were reposting her drawing with notes about the harassment. On October 5 X ran a trending topic saying she had deleted her Bluesky account [5]. On October 6 she posted her Malfoid art on X herself, and the replies there were overwhelmingly supportive. One widely shared retelling gets the basics wrong. LifeSiteNews wrote on October 8 that the images were made with AI and that Yunayu's repost kicked off the trend [6]. The timestamps say otherwise: the [Malfoid origin](/origin.md) drawing by @redteneri went up on September 22, two weeks before Yunayu's post on X, and had passed 100,000 likes long before the Malfoid controversy began. ## Malfoid controversy timeline Here is the Malfoid controversy in dates, with the hour where the post gives one, in UTC. - **Sep 22** The trend starts: @redteneri's drawing goes viral. For the first week there is no Malfoid controversy at all. - **Around Oct 3** The r/AO3 thread: “am i the only one grossed out by the whole malfoid thing” gets about 1,200 upvotes and is locked at 350 comments. - **By Oct 3** Yunayu's drawing comes down: After the backlash on Bluesky she apologizes and removes it. - **Oct 4** The boycott debate: Ana Valens posts a six-part Bluesky thread arguing that yelling at artists is not working. - **Oct 5, 01:44** Yunayu leaves Bluesky: X runs a trending topic saying she has deleted her account. - **Oct 6, 11:52** Yunayu posts on X: Her Malfoid drawing passes 120,000 likes. - **Oct 8** The story gets retold: LifeSiteNews runs the version with AI images and Yunayu as the trend's starting point. ## What does J.K. Rowling think? As far as we can find, nothing, publicly. As of October 8, 2026, Rowling had not posted or spoken about the Malfoid controversy or the art. The closest thing to a position is old. In 2004 her spokesman told BBC News she was “very flattered” that fans wrote their own stories, as long as they stayed non-commercial and were not obscene [7]. Whether that still holds for a girl Draco named with an incel slur is anyone's guess. Most of the art at the center of the Malfoid controversy looks like this: affectionate, a little silly and aimed squarely at Harry. > @szeiart: #Malfoid (https://x.com/szeiart/status/2106606573535801506, 45K likes as of 2026-10-09) > @kenpai_arts: Stupid Potter.. 💚 #malfoy #malfoid (https://x.com/kenpai_arts/status/2107188213702181081, 60K likes as of 2026-10-09) ## Where this site stands We use the name Malfoid because it is what people search for, and you can't explain the Malfoid controversy without saying the word. We also use fem Draco and female Draco Malfoy throughout the site, and [the Malfoid meaning](/meaning.md) page lists every alternative. We don't take a side in the Malfoid controversy beyond that. We don't link to posts that harass anyone, we don't post screenshots of the pile-ons, and we don't name ordinary users from either side. For the art itself, the [fan art gallery](/fan-art.md) credits every artist. ## FAQ ### Why is Malfoid controversial? The Malfoid controversy has two parts. The name contains “foid”, an incel insult for women, and some fans see any Harry Potter trend as support for J.K. Rowling, whose views on transgender issues many of them oppose. ### Is Malfoid transphobic? The drawings in the Malfoid controversy say nothing about gender politics. The objection is to the franchise, not the art: critics argue that keeping Harry Potter popular helps Rowling. ### Did Yunayu quit Bluesky? Yes. She apologized, removed her drawing, then deleted her Bluesky account and posted her Malfoid art on X instead, where it passed 120,000 likes. ### Has J.K. Rowling commented on Malfoid? Not that we could find as of October 8, 2026. Her last known position on fan works, from 2004, was that she was flattered by them as long as they stay non-commercial. ## Sources 1. Hoop earrings show up often. If a drawing has all of those, it belongs here. This gallery collects the Malfoid fan art people actually shared. Each card shows the artist's name, the date and the live like count, and the enlarged view links to the original post on X. We keep a picture only while the post is up: when an artist deletes it or asks us to remove it, it leaves this Malfoid fan art gallery within a day. Every card has a short note on what the piece shows and where the joke lands. The order is by total likes since each post went up, not by what is hot today, and the counts refresh once a day, so the top of the page moves. Wattpad uses the tag malfoid. Below are 12 picks rated General or Teen. ## Key facts - AO3 tag: Female Draco Malfoy, 652 works - Rated General or Teen: 141 and 179 of them - Wattpad tag: malfoid, 36 stories - Our picks: 12, all ages or teen ## Where Malfoid fanfiction lives Fans were writing a girl Draco long before anyone drew Malfoid, and Malfoid fanfiction is spread across three sites. AO3 has the biggest and best-tagged collection. Wattpad has most of the new Malfoid fanfiction written since September 2026. FanFiction.net has the long, older genderbend stories. All three are free. Everything we list below is rated General or Teen; the same tags also hold Mature and Explicit work, so set a rating filter before you browse. > @Sachi_Hwa: This was probably their actual first meeting.. (1/2) #malfoid #malfoy (https://x.com/Sachi_Hwa/status/2106049172092908004, 58K likes as of 2026-10-09) > @Sachi_Hwa: (2/2) (https://x.com/Sachi_Hwa/status/2106049231379370196, 18K likes as of 2026-10-09) Plenty of Malfoid fanfiction borrows from comics like Sachi_Hwa's robe-shop story above, where Harry and the girl Draco meet in Diagon Alley before Hogwarts. ## How to find Malfoid fanfiction on AO3 Search the tag **Female Draco Malfoy**. AO3's tag wranglers have merged Malfoid, Draco Malfoid, fem!Draco, Always a Girl Draco and dozens of other spellings into it, so it is the one tag that catches everything [1]. On October 9, 2026 it held 652 works. Filter by rating and you get 141 rated General and 179 rated Teen. To find stories with Harry, add the relationship **Harry Potter/female Draco Malfoy**. Sort by kudos for the classics, or by date updated for new Malfoid fanfiction. Most new Malfoid fanfiction also adds “Malfoid” as a free tag, which is how you tell a 2026 story from a 2017 one at a glance. ## Malfoid fanfiction on Wattpad Wattpad's tag is simply **malfoid**, with 36 stories on October 9 [2]. The most-read Malfoid fanfiction there, Draconia Malfoy and the Boy Who Said No by nomootwo, passed 104,000 reads within three weeks of the trend starting. It retells all seven years, starting in a robe shop in Diagon Alley, and it is finished. Its author says it was written with AI assistance and credits the artists who inspired it, @redteneri among them. Wattpad has no age ratings like AO3's, so read the tags and the first part before you commit. ## Malfoid fanfiction on FanFiction.net FanFiction.net has no Malfoid tag, so Malfoid fanfiction there takes some digging. Search for “fem Draco” or filter the Harry Potter section by the characters Harry P. and Draco M., then read the summaries. The genderbend stories here are older and longer. Two are in our picks below: A Life Twice Lived, which has more than 6,600 favorites, and Almost Too Late, written on October 1, 2026 for the Malfoid wave. One story that malfoid.com links to has been deleted. Video: [Fem Malfoy has perfected the most divisive trope in romance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eECgdd-cAH8) The video above, from SYTOkun, explains why the enemies-to-lovers setup behind most Malfoid fanfiction works so well, with comparisons to other famous rival couples. ## Our picks Twelve stories, all rated General or Teen, in two groups. First the two pieces of Malfoid fanfiction written for the 2026 wave, then ten earlier female Draco stories, the AO3 ones by kudos. Each is marked as a short or long read and as complete or still in progress, checked on October 9, 2026. Tagged romance and fluff, no smut. Both assume the other hates them. Tagged Fem!Draco. Over 6,600 favorites on FanFiction.net. ## The Villainess Malfoy: the Korean web novel Malfoid fanfiction has a professional cousin. The Villainess Malfoy is a Korean web novel by Gosokdoru about Carina Malfoy, a top student and pureblood heiress whose weakness falls into the hands of Harry Potter, here a troublemaker who takes after his father [3]. It calls itself an academy rom-com. An English translation went up on Novelpia Global, where all 111 chapters were posted on October 3, 2026, right as Malfoid fanfiction was taking off. The first chapters are free. ## Reading tips Names change from one piece of Malfoid fanfiction to the next, so don't search only for Draconia. Writers have used Dracona, Dara, Delieva, Lacerta, Daralise and Carina, and some just keep Draco. A pureblood society AU, where Harry is raised as an heir, is the most common setting, and the stories with the most kudos are often short, under 5,000 words. If you want something finished, check the chapter count on AO3: 13/13 means done, 38/60 means it is still being written. For the drawings these stories grew out of, see the [Malfoid fan art gallery](/fan-art.md). ## FAQ ### Where can I read Malfoid fanfiction? AO3 has the most, under the tag Female Draco Malfoy. Wattpad has a newer set under the tag malfoid, and FanFiction.net has older genderbend stories. ### Is there a Malfoid tag on AO3? Not a separate one. AO3's tag wranglers merged Malfoid and Draco Malfoid into Female Draco Malfoy, so searching either word lands on the same list. ### What is Draconia's name in fanfiction? It varies by writer: Draconia, Dracona, Dara, Delieva, Lacerta, Carina. Draconia shows up most in the new Malfoid fanfiction on Wattpad. ### Is Malfoid fanfiction safe to read? Ratings vary. Everything on this page is rated General or Teen; filter AO3 by rating before you browse, because the tag includes Mature and Explicit work. ## Sources 1. In 2026 this version got a name, Malfoid. ## Key facts - Also called: Malfoy girl, fem Malfoy, Malfoid, 女体化マルフォイ - Earliest known drawing: November 9, 2011, on Tumblr - 2024 precedent: @grizz056, “If malfoy was a girl” - Became Malfoid: September 22, 2026 ## What is female Draco Malfoy? Female Draco Malfoy is Draco redrawn as a girl and kept otherwise intact. The platinum hair stays, the Slytherin tie stays, and so does the attitude: she is still rich, still smug and still picking fights with Harry Potter. Fans call this kind of change a genderbend. Nothing about it comes from J.K. Rowling. It lives entirely in fan art, fan fiction and, since October 2026, a pair of fan games. People search for the same idea in a dozen ways: “malfoy girl”, “fem Malfoy”, “draco malfoy female version”, “genderbent Draco”. They all lead to the same character. What changed in 2026 is that she got a name everyone recognizes, Malfoid, and a look that thousands of artists copied in two weeks. > @grizz056: If malfoy was a girl (https://x.com/grizz056/status/1766771258178613565, 96K likes as of 2026-10-09) ## Female Draco Malfoy before Malfoid The idea is older than the meme by about fifteen years. The earliest drawing Know Your Meme could find is a Tumblr post by maariaaargh from November 9, 2011 [1]. It picked up a few hundred likes and reblogs and stayed a niche joke. The next big moment came on March 10, 2024, when @grizz056 posted two drawings captioned “If malfoy was a girl” [2]. One shows her lounging with a smug look, the other flustered and blushing, which is almost exactly the formula the 2026 artists used. That post sits at about 96,000 likes today. For two years it was the best-known genderbent Draco on X, and nobody had a short name for her yet. In Japan the practice has a name of its own, 女体化 (nyotaika), and the pixiv Encyclopedia notes it goes back centuries, citing an Edo-period gender-swapped retelling of the Water Margin [3]. The Japanese tag for this character is 女体化マルフォイ, and pixiv already has a page of works under it. ## How female Draco became Malfoid Then came September 22, 2026. @redteneri posted a girl Draco leaning in with a bored smirk and asking since when Potter is a top student. It spread fast, and within a week other artists were redrawing the same idea with the same ingredients. The name Malfoid, first seen on X back in January, stuck to her almost overnight. The pattern is familiar from 2018, when Bowsette, a female Bowser, went from one comic to hundreds of fan drawings in under a week [4]. The comparison was made within days, and the video below makes it directly. Video: [Malfoid Is The New Bowsette](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txvH7NiCORs) > @redteneri: (image) (https://x.com/redteneri/status/2102398387194626330, 171K likes as of 2026-10-09) > @spaz141: love triangle hope you dont mind the tag, not even a harry potter fan but i was enamored by the eyes thus i must contribute. #harrypotter (https://x.com/spaz141/status/2104218558087807258, 45K likes as of 2026-10-09) ## What do fans call her? | Name | Where it comes from | |---|---| | Malfoid | The 2026 meme name: Malfoy plus “foid”, incel slang for women. See [what Malfoid means](/meaning.md). | | Fem Malfoy, female Malfoy, Malfoy girl | Plain descriptions, used by fans who avoid the meme name. | | Draconia | Used by the fan game Draconia and by Wattpad stories. | | Dracona | A fan spelling seen in searches and posts. | | 女体化マルフォイ | The Japanese tag, “gender-swapped Malfoy”. | ## How artists draw her Every artist changes something, but the core of female Draco Malfoy barely moves. We went through the twenty most-liked drawings in our [Malfoid fan art gallery](/fan-art.md) and counted what stays the same. [Figure: Bar chart of traits in the 20 most-liked Malfoid drawings: long blonde hair 20, green tie 17, speech bubble at Potter 11, Harry in the drawing 10, multi-panel comic 10] The hair is universal. The green tie only disappears in black-and-white manga. About half the drawings talk to Potter directly, and about half put Harry in the frame, usually so she can insult him or so the last panel can turn into a blush. Writer David V. Stewart summed up the appeal in one line: “First, she's cute.” [5] The rest, he argues, comes from the bully turning into a tsundere. > @naohrw7: #malfoy #malfoid 女体化マルフォイ (https://x.com/naohrw7/status/2107836862438244674, 2.6K likes as of 2026-10-09) > @matsuryun: マルフォイ (https://x.com/matsuryun/status/2106365958449422729, 2.2K likes as of 2026-10-09) > @Sachi_Hwa: This was probably their actual first meeting.. Fans have shipped Harry and Draco for twenty years, and a girl Draco turns that rivalry into a classic enemies-to-lovers setup without changing the insults. That is also where some of the criticism comes from, which [the Malfoid controversy](/controversy.md) covers. For the character herself, her look, names and personality, see [who is Malfoid](/who-is-malfoid.md). ## Is Draco a girl in the new Harry Potter series? No. A lot of the recent searches for “is Malfoy a girl” come from people who saw the art and assumed it was official casting news. It isn't. HBO's Harry Potter series cast Lox Pratt, an English teen actor, as Draco in 2025, with Johnny Flynn as Lucius [6]. The show adapts the books, and its Draco is a boy. Malfoid, Draconia and every other girl version on this page are fan creations. The timing still helped. The series has kept Harry Potter in the news, a new cast means new fan art of the Malfoys, and an audience that never read the books is meeting Draco for the first time. A joke that only works if you know who Draco is landed on a much bigger crowd than it would have in 2024. ## Where to find more female Draco Malfoy On X, search the hashtag #malfoid or the phrase “female Draco”. On pixiv, use 女体化マルフォイ. On AO3, the tag is Female Draco Malfoy, and our [Malfoid fanfiction](/fanfiction.md) page lists general and teen stories. ## FAQ ### Is there a female Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter? The joke has three parts, and every Malfoid drawing hits at least two of them. She is Draco, but a girl: same platinum hair, same green tie, same rich-kid sneer. She mocks Harry, usually with a line that sounds like the films, “Potter” stretched out into “Pottah”. Then she blushes. That last beat turns a school bully into a rival with a crush, and fans have been shipping Harry and Draco for twenty years, so the setup was already familiar. It also follows a pattern the internet has seen before. In 2018 Bowsette, a female Bowser, took over the same way: one popular drawing, then thousands of artists redrawing it within a week. Malfoid is the 2026 version, and the comparison was made almost immediately. Video: [How Malfoid Took Over the Internet (and Fixed Harry Potter)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkZ_RIP0XOs) ## How Malfoid went from one drawing to a trend The first big Malfoid post went up on September 22 at 14:03 UTC, from artist @redteneri [1]. It now has well over 100,000 likes. On September 27 a love-triangle drawing with Hermione followed, and on September 29 a three-pose sheet by @masoq095 passed 100,000 likes and Malfoid hit X's trending list. By October 1 the first fan dating sim was out. The [full Malfoid timeline](/origin.md) has every step with its source. ## Who is Malfoid in the fan art? Artists change a lot, but a few things stay fixed: long blonde hair, hoop earrings, the Slytherin tie and an expression that is either a smirk or a pout. We counted the twenty most-liked drawings: all twenty have the long blonde hair, seventeen show the green tie, and half of them put Harry in the frame so she has someone to insult. Her name is not settled either. Some fans call her Draconia, some Dracona, and the fan games picked their own. The [Malfoid character profile](/who-is-malfoid.md) covers all of it. ## Where to go next If you only want the pictures, the [Malfoid fan art gallery](/fan-art.md) keeps every major post in one place, ranked by likes and credited to the artist, with a line on what each drawing is doing. If the name is what confused you, [what Malfoid means](/meaning.md) breaks it down word by word, and [the Malfoid controversy](/controversy.md) covers the part that got an artist harassed off Bluesky. Two groups of fans went looking for more than art. The first wanted to play, and two free Malfoid visual novels, Pureblood & Prejudice and Draconia, appeared on itch.io within ten days. Both are free and run in a phone browser. The second wanted stories, and [Malfoid fanfiction](/fanfiction.md) lists where to find them on AO3, Wattpad and FanFiction.net, general and teen ratings only. AO3 alone has about 650 works under the tag Female Draco Malfoy, and its tag wranglers folded the Malfoid tag into that one, so searching either word lands on the same list. If you came here from a Draco search and have never heard of any of this, start with [female Draco Malfoy](/female-draco-malfoy.md). Girl versions of Draco were around for years before anyone called her Malfoid, and that page explains how a long-running fan habit turned into a two-week meme. ## FAQ ### What is Malfoid? Malfoid is the fan nickname for a girl version of Draco Malfoy: platinum hair, Slytherin robes and a habit of mocking Harry. The art went viral on X in late September 2026. ### Is Malfoid canon? No. Malfoid only exists in fan art, comics and fan games. J.K. Rowling's books and the films only have Draco. ### Why is she called Malfoid? The name joins Malfoy with “foid”, incel slang for women. Many fans prefer “fem Draco” because of that. ### Who drew the first Malfoid? Girl versions of Draco go back to at least 2011. The Malfoid wave started with @redteneri's drawing on September 22, 2026. ### Why is Malfoid trending? A rival who insults Harry and then blushes is an easy joke to redraw, and hundreds of artists did, one after another, in under two weeks. ### Is there a Malfoid game? Yes. Pureblood & Prejudice and Draconia are free fan visual novels that run in a phone or desktop browser. ## Sources 1. Most posters use it as a pun on the surname; some fans refuse to say it. ## Key facts - Built from: Malfoy + foid - Where “foid” comes from: r/Incels, April 2017, as “femoid” - First known use of Malfoid: January 10, 2026, on X - Names without the slur: fem Draco, female Malfoy - Malfoid meaning in one line: Draco Malfoy as a girl, named with an incel slur ## The Malfoid meaning, word by word Malfoid is two words jammed together. The first is Malfoy, Draco's surname. The second is foid, an insult for women that comes out of incel forums. Put them together and you get a nickname that rhymes with the character and carries a slur inside it. That double edge is the whole reason the Malfoid meaning gets argued about. [Figure: Diagram: Malfoy, Draco's surname since 1997, plus foid, short for femoid from r/Incels in 2017, makes Malfoid, first used in January 2026] Malfoy itself has a pointed origin. It comes from the French “mal foi”, bad faith, and Draco has carried it since the first book in 1997 [2]. Rowling picked a name that told you he was trouble before he said a word. ## What does “foid” mean? Foid is short for femoid, a blend of female and android. Know Your Meme traces the first known use to a deleted post on r/Incels on April 1, 2017, which opened with the line “Females don't have personalities” [1]. The idea behind it is that women are machines running a script, not people. Over the next few years the word spread to 4chan and other forums, and the shorter foid became the common form. So when people ask about the Malfoid meaning, the honest answer has two layers. The literal layer is “Malfoy, but a foid”, which is an insult. The layer most posters intend is just a pun. Video: [Draco Malfoid Meme EXPLAINED!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCY_BJ5NeO8) ## Is the word Malfoid offensive? Whether the Malfoid meaning is offensive depends on who you ask, and both sides have a point. Yahoo's explainer, based on Know Your Meme, put it plainly: the name does not appear to be used to call the character unintelligent, it was picked because “Malfoy” and “foid” combine so easily [5]. That matches what you see on X, where almost nobody uses Malfoid as an insult. The other side looks at the word, not the intent. On r/AO3 a thread titled “am i the only one grossed out by the whole malfoid thing” drew 350 comments before the moderators locked it, and the original poster asked why straight men suddenly loved enemies-to-lovers once one character was redrawn and called a foid [6]. The full argument, including the artist who was harassed over it, is on [the Malfoid controversy](/controversy.md) page. > @yunayuispink: (image) (https://x.com/yunayuispink/status/2107438962075980257, 120K likes as of 2026-10-09) ## When did the Malfoid meaning first appear? Earlier than most people think. The first known post using the word Malfoid is from January 10, 2026, by X user @swag_chaser, a text-only post with no drawing attached [3]. A TikTok animation on September 8 used the phrase “shut up malfoid” about Draco himself, still not as a girl. The Malfoid meaning only settled on the female version after @redteneri's drawing on September 22, 2026, and within a week it was the default name. Wiktionary now gives the Malfoid meaning as fandom slang for a gender-bent Draco Malfoy, often shipped with Harry, and flags it as a new entry still under review [4]. ## Does the Malfoid meaning change by platform? It does, and that explains most of the fighting. On X the Malfoid meaning is mostly a character name: the hashtag sits under drawings, comics and jokes, and nobody stops to parse it. On Bluesky and in AO3 circles, the Malfoid meaning is read word by word, and the foid half is the first thing people notice. That gap is how an artist could post a drawing on both sites in the same week and get praise on one and a pile-on on the other. > @Hipaxiaartwork: Female Draco Malfoy AKA Malfoid ~ Harry Potter (https://x.com/Hipaxiaartwork/status/2104765822166085897, 3.1K likes as of 2026-10-09) > @naohrw7: #malfoy #malfoid 女体化マルフォイ (https://x.com/naohrw7/status/2107836862438244674, 2.6K likes as of 2026-10-09) ## Malfoid meaning in other languages The slur mostly does not travel. Japanese artists tag the same character 女体化マルフォイ, “gender-swapped Malfoy”, or write the meme name in katakana as マルフォイド, which reads as a cute nickname to anyone who has never seen the English insult. Spanish posts use “Malfoy mujer”, Malfoy the woman. So outside English the Malfoid meaning shrinks to just the joke, which is part of why the art spread so fast across languages while the argument stayed mostly in English. ## Other names for her If you like the art but not the Malfoid meaning, you have options, and every one of them is understood in fan spaces. | Name | What it signals | |---|---| | Fem Draco | The plain fandom term, used long before 2026 | | Female Malfoy, Malfoy girl | Descriptive, common in search and on AO3 | | Draconia | A given name used in fan stories and the fan game of the same name | | Dracona | A fan spelling seen in posts and searches | | 女体化マルフォイ | The Japanese tag, “gender-swapped Malfoy” | ## How people actually use the word Read the posts and the Malfoid meaning splits three ways. The first is the plain label: “Malfoid art”, “a Malfoid comic”, used like any character name. The second is the joke itself, posts that lean on the slur for shock value, which is what critics point at. The third is the hedge: captions like “Female Draco Malfoy AKA Malfoid” from @Hipaxiaartwork, which lead with the plain name and keep Malfoid for people searching. The Malfoid meaning you take away depends on which of the three you run into first, which is why two people can look at the same word and see a pun or an insult. For the character behind the name, see [who is Malfoid](/who-is-malfoid.md). For how the trend spread day by day, see [the Malfoid origin](/origin.md). ## FAQ ### What does foid stand for? Foid is short for femoid, a mix of female and android. It started on incel forums as a way to describe women as machines rather than people. ### Is Malfoid a slur? Half of it is. The Malfoid meaning most posters intend is a pun on Malfoy, but the foid part is an insult, which is why many fans won't use the word. ### What should I call her instead? Fem Draco or female Malfoy. Everyone in the fandom will know who you mean, and nobody will object. ### What is the Malfoid meaning in simple words? The Malfoid meaning in simple words: a fan-made girl version of Draco Malfoy, with a nickname that mixes his surname and an insult for women. ### Is the Malfoid meaning the same as Draconia? They point to the same character. Draconia is a name fans gave her in stories and a fan game; Malfoid is the meme name. ## Sources 1. Every source behind this Malfoid origin timeline is listed at the bottom of the page. ## What caused the Malfoid trend? Three things lined up, and the Malfoid origin makes more sense once you see them together. First, a template. Redteneri's drawing, the Malfoid origin point, was easy to copy: one character, one insult, one face. Every artist could add their own pose and line and still be part of the same joke. Second, a ship with a long history. Fans have paired Harry and Draco for twenty years. A girl Draco turned that old enemies-to-lovers story into something even casual readers got at a glance. Third, timing. Harry Potter was back in the news with the HBO series in production, so a lot of people who barely remembered Draco were seeing his name again. Video: [Draco Malfoid Meme EXPLAINED!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCY_BJ5NeO8) The video above retells the Malfoid origin from the meme side, with the incel slang explained along the way. Our [Malfoid meaning](/meaning.md) page covers the word in more detail. ## Who really started Malfoid? Ask three people about the Malfoid origin and you can get three names. maariaaargh drew a girl Draco first, in 2011. @swag_chaser typed the word first, in January 2026. @redteneri drew the picture that made people care, in September 2026. A fair telling of the Malfoid origin credits all three and then the hundreds of artists who redrew her in the two weeks after. ## How the Malfoid origin spread beyond X The first week was English-speaking X. By the second week the format had spread in every direction. Comics took over from single drawings, with Sachi_Hwa's robe-shop story and sigmman's Patronus series. Animations followed, with xin_cere_art's POTTTAH loop. Then came the two games, then fan fiction on AO3 and Wattpad, then Reddit threads arguing about the name. The spread across languages is part of the Malfoid origin too, and it is visible in the posts. matsuryun posted on October 3 with the single caption マルフォイ, and naohrw7 tagged a portrait 女体化マルフォイ on October 7. sigmman, who writes in Korean and English, posted a thank-you drawing for 5,000 followers on October 8. The order is the point: English first, then Korean and Japanese artists within about ten days. > @matsuryun: マルフォイ (https://x.com/matsuryun/status/2106365958449422729, 2.2K likes as of 2026-10-09) > @sigmman: Malfoy's Patronus 3 #malfoid (https://x.com/sigmman/status/2107840564897198545, 16K likes as of 2026-10-09) ## Is the Malfoid origin still growing? On October 8, about two weeks after the Malfoid origin, new drawings were still going up every day, and the most-liked posts kept gaining likes. We update this Malfoid origin timeline as new milestones land; the [fan art gallery](/fan-art.md) shows the latest posts, and [the Malfoid controversy](/controversy.md) covers the argument that grew alongside it. ## FAQ ### Who started Malfoid? No single person. Girl Draco art goes back to 2011 and the word to January 2026, but the wave started with @redteneri's drawing on September 22, 2026. ### When did Malfoid start? The viral part started on September 22, 2026 and took off between September 27 and 29, when X made it a trending topic. ### Why is Malfoid trending? Each new drawing gave other artists a template to copy, and comics, animations and two fan games kept new posts coming every day. ### What was the first Malfoid art? The earliest female Draco drawing Know Your Meme found is from Tumblr in 2011. The first drawing of the Malfoid trend itself is @redteneri's, from September 22, 2026. ## Sources 1. She is not in the books or films. ## Key facts - Type: Tsundere heiress - House: Slytherin - Rival: Harry Potter - Names in fandom: Malfoid, Draconia, Dracona - Canon character?: No, fan-made ## Who is Malfoid, in one paragraph? Ask who is Malfoid and you get the same picture from almost every artist: Draco Malfoy, but a girl. She keeps his platinum hair, his Slytherin tie and his talent for insulting Harry Potter in the corridor. What she adds is the blush. Halfway through every insult something gives her away, and that is the joke fans keep redrawing. She exists only in fan art, comics and two fan games; there is no girl Draco anywhere in J.K. Rowling's books or the films [1]. > @DANCHUKKEY: Potter? #malfoid (https://x.com/DANCHUKKEY/status/2105593854951043334, 75K likes as of 2026-10-09) > @re0nnn: 🐍 #malfoid (https://x.com/re0nnn/status/2106597987166404732, 32K likes as of 2026-10-09) ## Who is Malfoid by name? Fans have not agreed on a name, which is a big part of the answer to who is Malfoid. The meme name stuck first. Given names came later and vary by fan work. | Name | Where you'll see it | |---|---| | Malfoid | The meme name, used in hashtags and most posts on X. [What the name means](/meaning.md). | | Draconia | The given name in the fan game Draconia: Malfoid Dating Sim by avrana, and in Wattpad stories [2] | | Dracona | A fan spelling seen in posts and searches | | Fem Draco, female Malfoy | Plain descriptions that skip the meme name | | まるふぉいちゃん | A cute Japanese nickname used on pixiv | ## Her look The look is close to fixed. Long hair, almost always blonde or platinum, sometimes with a center part that echoes Draco's slicked-back style. Gold or silver hoop earrings show up again and again. The uniform is the Slytherin set: black robe, grey sweater, green and silver tie. Eye color is usually green or grey, with the odd blue. The expression is either a smirk or a pout, rarely anything in between. Our [female Draco Malfoy](/female-draco-malfoy.md) page counts how often each trait appears in the most-liked drawings. ## Who is Malfoid as a person? Ask fans who is Malfoid as a person and the word that comes up is tsundere, an anime type who acts cold or hostile to hide that she likes someone. Malfoid is that type with a Hogwarts uniform. Writer David V. Stewart argued that this is the real change from canon: the bully becomes a tsundere, which adds romantic tension on top of the old rivalry [3]. People search for her MBTI type too, which tells you how much of a full character fans have built from a few drawings. > @buttoniris: basically canon #malfoid (https://x.com/buttoniris/status/2107500169038299222, 19K likes as of 2026-10-09) > @xin_cere_art: POTTTAH #Malfoid #Malfoy (https://x.com/xin_cere_art/status/2105811870133395885, 46K likes as of 2026-10-09) ## Her favorite lines Read enough posts and the same few lines come back. All of them are aimed at one person. | Line | Where it comes from | |---|---| | “Since when are you one of the top students in the school, Potter?” | @redteneri, the drawing that started the trend | | “Training for the ballet, Potter?” | @redteneri's follow-up four days later | | “Stupid Potter” | @kenpai_arts, before the comic turns into a kiss | | “POTTTAH” | The animated loop by @xin_cere_art | | “Scared, Potter?” | @s117renner | | “Wait until my father hears about this!” | @Hipaxiaartwork, borrowing Draco's own line from the films | ## Who is Malfoid compared with canon Draco? | | Canon Draco Malfoy | Malfoid in fan art | |---|---|---| | First appeared | Philosopher's Stone, 1997 | X, September 2026 | | Hair | Sleek, pale blond | Long, blonde or platinum | | Eyes | Grey | Usually green or grey | | House | Slytherin | Slytherin | | Attitude to Harry | Rival and bully | Rival with an obvious crush | | Patronus | Never produced one [1] | A stag, same as Harry's, in sigmman's comic | | Ends up with | Astoria Greengrass | Harry, in most fan works | The Patronus row is a good example of how fans play with canon. Draco never casts a Patronus in the books. In sigmman's three-part comic, Malfoid finally manages one, it turns out to be a stag just like Harry's, and Snape asks the obvious question. > @sigmman: Malfoy's Patronus 2 #malfoid (https://x.com/sigmman/status/2107448622656950433, 21K likes as of 2026-10-09) ## Who is Malfoid in the fan games? The two fan games give her a fuller story than any single drawing can. In Draconia: Malfoid Dating Sim, the story starts on the Hogwarts Express: Harry refuses the hand Draconia offers him, and the game follows the seven years after that, ending with an epilogue nineteen years on [2]. She stays the rival Harry keeps turning down for most of it. Pureblood & Prejudice by COCOLEMON leaves Harry out: you play a Muggle-born student back for an eighth year, Slughorn makes her your Potions partner, and your choices decide how far the hostility goes. So who is Malfoid in the games? The same girl as in the art, with more lines and a family to answer to. ## Who is Malfoid outside the English-speaking internet? The character crossed languages within days. Japanese artists such as naohrw7 and matsuryun posted her under 女体化マルフォイ in early October, usually as quiet portraits with no joke attached. sigmman, who posts in Korean and English and drew the three-part Patronus comic above, thanked new followers in both languages. In those circles she is just a design to draw well, without the slur argument that follows her in English. > @naohrw7: #malfoy #malfoid 女体化マルフォイ (https://x.com/naohrw7/status/2107836862438244674, 2.6K likes as of 2026-10-09) ## Who is Malfoid not? She is not an official character, and she is not Draco in the new HBO series, which cast a boy. She is also not one person's creation. Know Your Meme traces the girl version back to 2011 and the name back to January 2026, and the September 2026 version is the work of dozens of artists building on each other [4]. If you want to see that build-up in order, the [Malfoid origin](/origin.md) page has the timeline. To meet her in a story instead of a drawing, try [Malfoid fanfiction](/fanfiction.md). She has no official name because she is not official. Draconia is the most common given name in fan works, and Malfoid is the meme name. ### Is Malfoid a tsundere? In almost every drawing, yes. She insults Harry, then blushes, which is the tsundere pattern in one sentence. ### Who is Malfoid in love with? Harry, in nearly every comic. The joke is that she would never admit it. ### What house is Malfoid in? Slytherin, like canon Draco. The green and silver tie is one of the few details almost every artist keeps. ## Sources 1.
