The drawing that set off the trend. Malfoid leans in with a bored smirk and asks since when Potter is a top student, then jokes that he and Longbottom must have set the school up themselves.
Female Draco Malfoy
Female Draco Malfoy is a fan genderbend of Harry Potter's Draco: same platinum hair, Slytherin robes and attitude, drawn as a girl. In 2026 this version got a name, Malfoid.

What is female Draco Malfoy?
Female Draco Malfoy is Draco redrawn as a girl and kept otherwise intact. The platinum hair stays, the Slytherin tie stays, and so does the attitude: she is still rich, still smug and still picking fights with Harry Potter. Fans call this kind of change a genderbend. Nothing about it comes from J.K. Rowling. It lives entirely in fan art, fan fiction and, since October 2026, a pair of fan games.
People search for the same idea in a dozen ways: “malfoy girl”, “fem Malfoy”, “draco malfoy female version”, “genderbent Draco”. They all lead to the same character. What changed in 2026 is that she got a name everyone recognizes, Malfoid, and a look that thousands of artists copied in two weeks.
The 2024 precedent, captioned 'If malfoy was a girl'. One panel shows her lounging with a smug look, the other flustered and blushing. It went viral two years before anyone called her Malfoid.
If malfoy was a girl
Female Draco Malfoy before Malfoid
The idea is older than the meme by about fifteen years. The earliest drawing Know Your Meme could find is a Tumblr post by maariaaargh from November 9, 2011[1]. It picked up a few hundred likes and reblogs and stayed a niche joke.
The next big moment came on March 10, 2024, when @grizz056 posted two drawings captioned “If malfoy was a girl”[2]. One shows her lounging with a smug look, the other flustered and blushing, which is almost exactly the formula the 2026 artists used. That post sits at about 96,000 likes today. For two years it was the best-known genderbent Draco on X, and nobody had a short name for her yet.
In Japan the practice has a name of its own, 女体化 (nyotaika), and the pixiv Encyclopedia notes it goes back centuries, citing an Edo-period gender-swapped retelling of the Water Margin[3]. The Japanese tag for this character is 女体化マルフォイ, and pixiv already has a page of works under it.
How female Draco became Malfoid
Then came September 22, 2026. @redteneri posted a girl Draco leaning in with a bored smirk and asking since when Potter is a top student. It spread fast, and within a week other artists were redrawing the same idea with the same ingredients. The name Malfoid, first seen on X back in January, stuck to her almost overnight.
The pattern is familiar from 2018, when Bowsette, a female Bowser, went from one comic to hundreds of fan drawings in under a week[4]. The comparison was made within days, and the video below makes it directly.

Love triangle: Malfoid and Hermione each hold one of Harry's arms while he stands between them, dizzy, with swirls on his glasses. Posted on September 27, it was the second big wave after redteneri.

How artists draw her
Every artist changes something, but the core of female Draco Malfoy barely moves. We went through the twenty most-liked drawings in our Malfoid fan art gallery and counted what stays the same.
How artists draw her: traits in the 20 most-liked Malfoid posts
Long blonde or platinum hair20 of 20
Slytherin green tie or robe trim visible17 of 20
A speech bubble aimed at “Potter”11 of 20
Harry appears in the drawing10 of 20
Multi-panel comic rather than a single image10 of 20
Counted by hand from the posts in our fan art gallery on October 8, 2026. Three of the twenty are black-and-white manga, which is why the green tie count is 17.
The hair is universal. The green tie only disappears in black-and-white manga. About half the drawings talk to Potter directly, and about half put Harry in the frame, usually so she can insult him or so the last panel can turn into a blush. Writer David V. Stewart summed up the appeal in one line: “First, she’s cute.”[5] The rest, he argues, comes from the bully turning into a tsundere.
A quiet portrait in green and black from Japanese artist naohrw7, tagged 女体化マルフォイ. Pale hair, green eyes, no speech bubble and no joke, just the design. Japanese artists joined the trend in early October.

The robe shop, part 1 of 2
Part one of Sachi_Hwa's robe-shop comic. Harry meets a very pretty, very chatty Slytherin girl at Madam Malkin's who asks about brooms and Quidditch. He has no idea who she is yet.
This was probably their actual first meeting.. (1/2) #malfoid #malfoy
Female Draco Malfoy and Harry
Most female Draco Malfoy art is really about Harry. Fans have shipped Harry and Draco for twenty years, and a girl Draco turns that rivalry into a classic enemies-to-lovers setup without changing the insults. That is also where some of the criticism comes from, which the Malfoid controversy covers. For the character herself, her look, names and personality, see who is Malfoid.
Is Draco a girl in the new Harry Potter series?
No. A lot of the recent searches for “is Malfoy a girl” come from people who saw the art and assumed it was official casting news. It isn’t. HBO’s Harry Potter series cast Lox Pratt, an English teen actor, as Draco in 2025, with Johnny Flynn as Lucius[6]. The show adapts the books, and its Draco is a boy. Malfoid, Draconia and every other girl version on this page are fan creations.
The timing still helped. The series has kept Harry Potter in the news, a new cast means new fan art of the Malfoys, and an audience that never read the books is meeting Draco for the first time. A joke that only works if you know who Draco is landed on a much bigger crowd than it would have in 2024.
